The Wrong Strategy - Rounding Off (At Least for the Time Being)

By Mark | Jun 9, 2008

Over the last few articles I’ve been looking at this position (see first diagram):

Sorry I’ve been quiet for the last week or so. I have spent some time looking at this position - trying to pick my way through the thickets of variations resulting from black going through with the plan of …b5-b4.

There are many, many variations and I can’t hope to cover all of them. I have decided not to pursue this game any further, because there are other games I want to move onto, and sadly there is a limit to the amount of time I can spend writing articles for this blog.

Black does seem to be doing well in all the variations Fritz and I have looked at. This should not come as a surprise because black is better developed and better positioned for action.

The diagram shows the position after 14…Rb8, however in the game I played the inferior 14…f4 and went on to loose.
